WHY TALLOW

Pourable Beef Tallow: What It Is and How to Cook With It

TALO SQUEEZE poured into a stainless pan on the stove

Pourable beef tallow is rendered beef fat that stays liquid at room temperature, so you can squeeze or pour it straight into a hot pan. At TALO, that means TALO SQUEEZE: 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef tallow from suet, from American farms — the same tallow as our jar, in a bottle that pours.

We sell tallow. This guide answers the pourable question plainly so you can cook with it.

What pourable beef tallow is

Most people meet beef tallow in a jar. It scoops like shortening until the pan warms it. Pourable tallow is the same cooking fat in a form that behaves more like oil on the counter: ready to drizzle, measure, and hit a hot skillet without waiting for a scoop to melt.

We make both formats. TALO SCOOP is the 14 oz jar. TALO SQUEEZE is the 16 oz bottle that pours at room temperature. Same ingredient story. Different kitchen workflow.

Why some tallow pours

Beef fat is a mix of fats that melt at different temperatures. When tallow is rendered slowly from suet and kept as a clean single ingredient, the balance of those fats can leave the finished fat liquid at room temperature instead of solid in a jar.

TALO SQUEEZE is not a blend with seed oils, avocado oil, or olive oil. It is 100% beef tallow. If a bottle of "liquid tallow" lists other oils on the label, that is a blend. Ours does not.

For how we render, see How Tallow Is Rendered.

Smoke point for home cooking

TALO beef tallow has a 420°F smoke point. That covers a hard sear on steak, a 425°F roast, and deep frying in the 350–375°F range without the fat falling apart the way butter does. Pourable tallow does not change that ceiling. It just makes it easier to get the fat into the pan.

How to cook with pourable tallow

Use it 1:1 anywhere a recipe calls for oil, butter, or shortening on the stove. A tablespoon of oil becomes a tablespoon of Squeeze.

  • Eggs. A teaspoon into a medium pan, swirl, cook.
  • Steak or smash burgers. Get the pan hot, squeeze a thin layer, wait for a shimmer, then sear. Baste if you want.
  • Roasted vegetables. Toss potatoes, carrots, or Brussels sprouts with a few squeezes, salt them, and roast at 425°F until the edges crisp. Good mid-fall cooking.
  • Home fries. For a small batch in a Dutch oven, pour enough tallow to cover the fries by about an inch. First fry around 325°F until pale, second fry around 375°F until deep gold, salt while hot.

For pastry and biscuits where you want cold solid fat in the dough, the jar is still the better tool. Keep Squeeze for the stove. More technique lives in Cooking with Beef Tallow, and for a fall bake try our pumpkin pie with a tallow crust.

Jar vs Squeeze

  • TALO SCOOP (jar): scoop and melt · 14 oz glass jar · shelf life 12 months · best when you want solid fat for baking or a scoop-and-go jar.
  • TALO SQUEEZE: pours at room temperature · 16 oz squeeze bottle · shelf life 24 months · best for searing, frying, and quick weekday cooking.

Both are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef tallow from suet, from American farms. Squeeze launches October 23, 2026. You can preorder TALO SQUEEZE now; we charge today and ship when we go live.

How to store pourable tallow

Keep the bottle capped in a cool, dark spot. The pantry is fine. No refrigeration is required for everyday use. Squeeze is rated for 24 months; the jar for 12 months. If a hot kitchen softens a jar, that is melting, not spoilage.
